Cheaper ticketing will be introduced, the entry list will be longer and night time stages will be included for this year’s Wales Rally GB.

In a comprehensive overhaul of the three day event from 30 November to 2 December, Britain’s round of the World Rally Championship will also see the service centre moved to overlook Swansea marina, with the official start and finish now relocated to the centre of Cardiff. Saturday’s new super special stage in the Millennium Stadium has been retained as the only venue in the WRC to feature this challenge but the entertainment will precede it and the rally cars will complete the section one behind the other without interruption. Andrew Coe (below), chief executive of WRGB organisers International Motor Sport, said they would also mark the 75th anniversary of the event with a special display and procession of historic rally cars in Cardiff.
He added, “We have some really exciting initiatives for 2007 to help celebrate this iconic British sporting event. This is a great opportunity to combine a celebration of the past with the excitement of the opportunities moving forward.”
It has been run almost every year since 1932, stopping only for the war, Suez crisis and Foot and Mouth outbreak and Cardiff has hosted it since 2000 with Welsh Assembly Government backing it since 2003.
The future of the event will be discussed next year and sport observers will be watching this year’s event with very critical eyes.
Spokesman at the event from the Welsh Assembly Government and Cardiff City Council stressed how important the rally has been to Wales and encouraging young people into performance engineering.
WRGB 2007 mostly copies the stages from last year with some modification, but the final runs on Friday and Saturday will be in the dark to add extra demands on crews. It is also the final round of the Tesco 99 British Championship so it's extended to 120 starting places.
