Ralio, the S4C programme which follows the FIA World Rally Championship across 16 countries and 5 Continents, will broadcast its 50th programme during Wales Rally GB – this year’s WRC finale.

And to celebrate its golden anniversary, Ralio will broadcast nightly bulletins for the first time – bringing the very latest news from the forests of south, mid and west Wales from Friday 30 November to Sunday 2 December.

Now in its fourth season, Ralio is broadcast in Welsh with English subtitles available on S4C and digital channel,S4C digidol, which is available outside Wales on Sky Channel 134.
The coverage will also be available on-line on broadband in the UK via the S4C website, s4c.co.uk.
The popular Ralio series is produced by Llanelli-based TV company P.O.P. 1, part of the Tinopolis Group of companies, and presented by Lowri Morgan and Emyr Penlan. The highlights programmes, broadcast on Thursday nights in the week immediately after each WRC stage, features highlights from the British Rally Championship and other British rallying events, as well as the WRC.
Wales Rally GB has been based in Cardiff since 2000 and has been sponsored by the Welsh Assembly Government since 2003
and a renewed contact will keep the rally in Wales until at least 2011.
This year’s rally should make fantastic television, as the reigning World Champion, Frenchman Sébastien Loeb Citroën C4, will be battling against last year’s Wales Rally GB Champion, Finland’s Marcus Grönholm Ford Focus RS in what looks likely to be the title decider.
Not only will that but Wales Rally GB be double-world champion Grönholm’s last rally before retirement from the WRC.
Over 120 cars will contest this year’s event, including Ralio’s expert analyst and former British Rally Champion Gwyndaf Evans, who will be competing against his son Elfyn (above) for the very first time, as the 19-year old makes his WRC debut.
Emyr Penlan said, “I can't believe that Wales Rally GB will be our fiftieth programme – and roll on 2008! There are so many rally fans in Wales, Ralio was always going to be a popular programme, but being described as 'the best rally programme on earth' by Motorsport News was a real bonus.”
Lowri Morgan said, “Reporting on such an exciting, emotional and global sport, and being part of a great team, makes me realise how fortunate I am. I can't believe it's been four years. Time flies when you're having fun!”

Wyn Gruffydd, Ralio’s main action commentator, said, “For somebody who has been following rallying for the last twenty years, it's great that we'll be celebrating our fiftieth programme at home on Wales Rally GB and that Wales once more has risen to the occasion especially as it might be the Championship decider for this year.”(Lowri and Emyr are pictured by Gary Jones)
