Porsche chief executive Wendelin Wiedeking was awarded a €70 million salary package, according to German media reports, making him one of the world’s highest paid industrialists.
But the pay deal has provoked a strong attack from Germany’s president over fat-cat pay deals.

A cross-over SUV version of the New Mini is likely to be built abroad, BMW has confirmed. 

The new model due in 2009 is expected to share the running gear and platform features of the next generation BMW X3.


Britain and Ireland can continue to use miles for road signs and speed indications as well as pints, for bottled milk and draught beer and cider, according to a European Parliament ruling.

MEPs have called on EU Member States to increase R&D funding for the car industry to help it meet legally binding CO2 targets.

The call came in a report on the Competitive Automotive Regulation System for the 21st Century initiative, which was adopted by the European Parliament's Industry Committee on 21 November.

 

There is mixed reaction to the likely support for fuel blockades, says the Road Haulage Association.
It asked 8,000 members if they would support some sort of demonstration but the response was inconclusive.

 

Production of the re-born electric car, the TH!NK City, has started outside Oslo.
Now it will begin trials under Norwegian winter conditions before commercial launch in first-half 2008. In 2008, the factory will reach a full production capacity, equivalent to 3,500 cars per shift.
