Mercedes-Benz van sales executive Carly Pontin is looking forward to a fantastic safari holiday in Africa – as a reward from the manufacturer for her outstanding performance in 2007.
Carly works for South Wales dealer Euro Commercials. She is based at the company’s recently-opened Van Centre on Penarth Road, Cardiff, and responsible for retail sales of vehicles from the multi-award-winning Mercedes-Benz Vito, Sprinter and Vario ranges.
Recognition for her achievements came from the Mercedes-Benz Van Sales Academy, an incentive and motivation programme that brings together some 160 sales executives and 25 sales managers employed by franchises nationwide.

Top prize this year was the eight-day safari holiday to Botswana and Zambia, during which winners and their partners will get the chance to view big game at close quarters and visit the magnificent Victoria Falls.
Only 15 places were up for grabs on the trip and the fact that Carly secured one of the coveted berths after her first full year in the job underlines the tremendous progress she has made.
Carly earned her seats on the plane to Africa after winning her individual sales league. She also collected a Van Academy Gold Award, and with it a clutch of store vouchers, as did her Van Sales Manager Nathan Black.
A keen kick boxer, Carly joined Euro Commercials as an administration assistant in 2002. She became the company’s first female sales executive when she was promoted to her current role in 2006.
Carly, who lives in Cardiff, said, “I sold over 170 vehicles in 2007, more than doubling my target, with a significant number going to a major leasing company that I managed to convert to Mercedes-Benz.
“So my first full year in the job went really well and now my partner and I are really looking forward to what I’m sure will be a fantastic holiday.”
Carly’s van sales colleagues Paul Reynolds and Andrew Copp, who are based at Newport and Swansea respectively, took Silver awards, and Gareth Jones, who works alongside Carly at the Van Centre, won Bronze.
Meanwhile, Steve Bastin, who is based at Euro Commercials’ Swansea dealership, will be joining a group of 15 leading truck sales specialists from around the Mercedes-Benz UK dealer network, on a three-night break in New York. Steve’s strong sales performance last year earned him a place in the Mercedes-Benz Truck Masters Diamond Club.
