Two prestige-brand compact convertibles, to be introduced to the UK market this year, will establish a new benchmark for drop-top residual values, according to EurotaxGlass’s, publisher of auto industry ‘bible’ Glass’s Guide.

When the newly-launched BMW 1-Series and Audi A3 cabriolets reach the second-hand market later this year, they are expected to command exceptionally high prices relative to their original cost new.

Initial demand for the German duo could well see used examples selling for near-list price, just as is the case for ultra-exclusive convertible sports cars from the likes of Aston Martin and Lamborghini.

Diesel models are expected to hold onto 50 per cent of their list price after three years and 60,000 miles.

“There is nothing else like the BMW or Audi on sale at present,” comments Jason King, Head of Market Intelligence at EurotaxGlass’s.

“Many manufacturers have opted to launch coupe-convertibles with folding hard roofs instead of the more traditional soft tops, a move which has failed to attract the more image-conscious drivers who like people to know that they drive convertibles.”

Peugeot UK’s Managing Director Pierre Louis Colin has announced two senior director appointments.

Christian Stein has been appointed as Peugeot’s new Director - Marketing with responsibility for all elements of marketing and promoting the Company’s extensive product range through advertising, the website and other communication channels.

Stein joins from Peugeot Belgium where he was Director - Marketing for the past four years and the five previous years he managed Peugeot Belgium’s dealer group.  He has also worked in the Spanish and French markets for Peugeot in both finance and sponsorship roles.

In the second appointment announcement, Andy Sutton, previously Peugeot’s Director - Marketing, has taken on a new role of Director - Quality and Service.  This new role encompasses training, quality and service.

Commenting on the two appointments Colin said: “Our ambition within the UK car and van market means we have to establish even greater awareness of the Peugeot brand and our product ranges in all media formats.  Christian’s focus is simple, to help build this greater awareness and further develop the Peugeot brand.
