Richard Lloyd leads the pack at Pembrey
Pembrey was the place to be over the weekend when an action packed weekend of racing took place at the Welsh Motorsports Centre.

With three of the seventeen scheduled races over the weekend in the Welsh Sports & Saloon Car Championship there was a big interest in local racer Rhys Lloyd (below right) from Bronwydd Carmarthen.
Lloyd was back on his home circuit after taking overall victory the previous weekend at the Castle Coomb track in Wiltshire in the LMA Euro Saloons race.
Race one at Pembrey saw Lloyd take second overall and a class win on the Saturday.
His second race on the Sunday morning saw the 22 year old get a sensational start again leading the pack off the start grid and out of the first bend in his Seat Leon Cupra ex cup car but as the race progressed he had to give way to the Mondeo of Alvin Powell which had a higher top speed on the long straights. With the final lap over Lloyd had closed the gap to just under 0.5 of a second behind Powell.

The Johnstown garage proprietor saw his third race go badly wrong however when he and Powell were again at the front of the field going into the first corner but the Mondeo of Powell swerved into Lloyd twice forcing major damage on the Seat
With no other option Rhys was forced to retire but still leads the Welsh Sports & Saloon Championship.
He heads back to England later in the month to resume his National Championship in the LMA Euro Saloon Championship but then returns to Pembrey in June when an even more packed grid is promised for another action packed weekend’s racing.
