A search is underway for vehicles that hold a special place in Welsh automotive history to take part in the biggest motoring event to be held in Wales this year.

The Wales Modified and Motor Sport Show is taking place at Chepstow Racecourse on August 30/31 and organisers say they want it to be a celebration of Wales’s role in the automotive industry.

Event director, Peter Hughes says, “Wales continues to be a major player in the industry, mainly through the production of vehicle parts, but the country’s role goes back a long way, from the days of Charles Rolls, through to the slightly eccentric Sinclair C5 and on to today and some exciting alternative fuel projects. We want to reflect as much of that as we can.”          Already a Europe wide search is underway for a Kieft single seater race car. Cyril Kieft came from Swansea and designed racing cars, many of which were built in Bridgend and driven by Stirling Moss.

“In addition” says Peter, “we hope to have representatives of the glorious Gilbern marque, early examples of which (above) were built behind a butcher's shop in Llantwit Fadre.”

The organisers’ ambitions don’t end there, however, “Any vehicle on two or more wheels that holds a place in Welsh motoring or motor sport history will be very welcome.”

If you know of a vehicle that you think should be at the show you can contact the organisers on phmr@btinternet.com.

As well as this display, visitors to the show will be able to enjoy a wide range of live action displays and experience a variety of activities.

Admission to the show is from £11 with a full range of day and weekend tickets for individuals and family groups bookable from the web sites:
 www.walesmodifiedshow.com and www.walesmotorsportshow.com.
