Welsh rally driver Gareth Jones finished Rally Deutschland in 16th place overall.
Jones was co-driven by Irishman David Moyninhan in his new Subaru Impreza S12 but found the new regulation Pirelli tyres were taking a bit of time to accustom to, unlike the various tyres he used in the past and which he knew well.
Struggling with the tyres, the 28 year old Bronwydd driver (above) steadily moved up the leader board every day taking in the odd spin in the Subaru in the process on the narrow tarmac roads in the Mosselle valley vineyards but kept the Vicari.com backed car on the road and set improved stage times as the event progressed.
The final stage was set in the historical host town of Trier with the cars timed through the cobbled streets and Gareth crossed the finish line with a well deserved 16th overall and was the second placed best British driver on the event.
The rally was won by Sebastian Loeb in his Citreon C4 while his team mate Dani Sordo took the runner up position and Francois Duval finished third in his Ford Focus after the works Focus of Mikko Hirvonen picked up a puncture dropping him to fourth overall.
Welsh co-driver Phil Mills finished 5th overall with Petter Solberg in the all new Subaru Impreza WRC after a scorching hot event that saw Italian driver Gigi Galli break a femur after a high speed accident in his Stobbart backed Ford Focus.
Gareth is also hoping to be competing on the next WRC tarmac event, Rally Spain at the end of September.
