Renault staff ready for charity run
ON THEIR MARKS TO MAKE A MARK: Renault Cardiff’s Peter Waterhouse, Darren Bowen, Neil Williams and Matthew Harris.

Four staff from Renault Cardiff are hoping to raise more than £1,000 for the P.A.L Appeal by competing in this month’s Cardiff Half-Marathon.

Sales Manager Darren Bowen from Blackwood, Business Manager Peter Waterhouse from Ebbw Vale and New Car Sales Executives Matthew Harris from Whitchurch and Neil Williams from Risca will be attempting the 13.1-mile course through the streets of the capital on Sunday, 19 October.

The runners are raising money for the Velindre Cancer Care as part of the P.A.L. Appeal which the dealership is a long-standing support of, and earlier this year helped raise more than £7,000 for the cause by supplying a Renault Twingo as a raffle prize for the charity’s Spring Ball.

The sponsorship money will be used to help pay for the running of the Velindre Cancer Care centre which provides specialist cancer services to people in south east Wales.

Darren said: “We are all complete novices so we’re not looking to finish in a particular time – we’d all be happy just to finish and reach our target for the P.A.L Appeal which Renault Cardiff has been supporting since the start of the year.

“We’ve still got some training to do before the event but it’s already been really beneficial as instead of sitting behind our desks at lunch time we’ve been running around the dealership getting fit!

“We’d like to thank everyone who has sponsored us so far, especially our colleagues who have been very generous and supportive.”

The Cardiff Half Marathon is now in its sixth year and last year attracted almost 6,000 runners.

Nearly a dozen Welsh garages have so far signed up to a scheme which promises a female friendly service pioneered by the Foxy Lady Drivers club.

The garages have to agree to never knowingly overcharge, patronise or sell services which are not needed by their female customers.

So far, the Welsh garages for the girls are:

AVW Advanced Vehicle Workshop CAERNARFON; Celtic Cars PRESTATYN;
Fix Auto Cardiff South CARDIFF; Hardy's Recovery PWLLHELI; Jockey Garage Limited PONTYPOOL; John Roberts Motor Services WREXHAM; Lindop Brothers Ltd DEESIDE; Lindop Brothers Ltd WREXHAM; Meister John Roberts RHOS-ON-SEA; Orion Motors BRECON and Promotive NEWPORT.
