UNDER STARTER’S ORDERS: Francois Duval, Matthew Wilson, Jari-Matti Latvala, Roger Pugsley, Roelant de Waard and Mikko Hirvonen cut the tape and officially open the new Fordthorne showrooms.

Fordthorne, Cardiff is bucking the trend and invited FoB chairman Roelant de Waard to officially open its new showroom, which is part of a £2million investment in the Penarth Road site.

As November car sales showed a 37pc decline in business, Mr de Waard opened the showroom with help from the BP-Ford and Stobart VK M-Sport rally teams in Cardiff for Wales Rally GB, and congratulated the dealership on its foresight and commitment to the brand.

He said, “We have some outstanding looking vehicles in the Ford range and they need to be complimented by an outstanding looking retail investment and that’s what you have done.
“I know you have also invested a lot in the service operation because it’s not just about selling new cars but looking after your customers once the sale is made.”
Dealer principal Roger Pugsley showed the chairman around the newly adapted premises and said the company was committed to a sustained investment which had started and would be completed next spring at a cost of close to £2million. He added, “This has been a very substantial investment and I think the timing is right because we know there are some exciting new Ford models coming and we will see the benefit in the long term and be able to provide our customers with the right environment to buy them and to have them serviced. “If the dealership doesn’t have the confidence to invest in its operations how can we expect Ford to invest in future products. It is absolutely right that Ford and Fordthorne are investing for the future.” SIGN OF THE TIMES: Ford rally teams crew sign autographs for supporters during the official opening of the Fordthorne showrooms in Cardiff.
