Carmarthen cracker pulls in rally fans

The Carmarthen Motor Club organised West Wales Rally Spares Xmas Stages
Rally certainly didn’t feel any effects of the credit crunch when the
event ran with a capacity entry of 75 starting cars and with hundreds
of spectators flocking to the Pembrey venue the rally got the thumbs up
by almost everybody.
Robert Tout / Laura Tout Ammanford took the
overall win in their Mitsubishi Lancer and finished 35 seconds clear of
runners up Gwyndaf Jenkins / Llinos Jones – Edwards in the Darrian T90.
Third overall went to the Sierra Cosworth of Alan Williams / Kath
Curzon a further 34 seconds behind the Darrian of Jenkins.
From the capacity entry of 75 cars 50 made it to the finish after five
demanding stages around the Pembrey race circuit and the surrounding
parameter roads.
No 1 seed Bob Fowden / Paul Wakely were the first to
retire when the Subaru Impreza retired on the opening stage leaving the
win wide open to many competitors but it was to be the Tout’s that
celebrated a well earned victory after an all day battle with the
Darrian of Jenkins that kept the spectators entertained all day.
The
TVMC crew of James Evans / Jenny Evans must have got the biggest
applause of the day when they finished 39th overall in the Mazda 323
after rolling the car onto its roof on the opening stage, but with
enough spectators to roll the car back onto its wheels the crew
continued with a few modifications to the car and only their pride hurt
in the roll.
