 | Fourteen year old Steffan Daniels
lives to race with his younger brother Tristan.
After
undergoing treatment for leukaemia, Steffan (above) has returned to autograss racing in
South Wales and will be competing with his 13 year old brother in the opening
round of this year's series at Red Roses, Pendine on Sunday.
| In
his first season last year, Tristan (below) ended the best male newcomer in the South
Wales league and the brothers are keen to get going again this year at the
first meeting, which is expected to attract over 70 cars.
Father
Keith Daniels has built them near identical 1000cc Minis with support from
local companies W J Evans, J R Brown and Darren Thomas Carpentry.
A
rally driving member of Lampeter MC, Keith, of Felinfach, says he hopes the
driving duo will develop their skills through the Teifi Autograss Club, which
is a member of the SW League. | | "It's
a great sport because it teaches car control, racing and mechanical skills and
it doesn't cost the earth," said Keith.
"Once I have built the cars all it
takes is a set of tyres, £25 annual licence and £3 an event to enter with about
£10 fuel. It's one of the cheapest and most keenly fought forms of motor sport."
His
father in law, William Evans, has been racing for about 30 years and will be
competing on Sunday in his Vauxhall Nova in another class.
The
racing league will hold or compete in about 20 events throughout the season
stretching across Wales to the Marches and some of the biggest meetings will
see over 500 cars and drivers competing. | |
