The UK government has "not ruled out making a financial contribution" to help secure the future of carmaker Vauxhall, Lord Mandelson has said.
The comments of the UK Business Secretary came as Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation (BAIC) joined the race to buy Opel and Vauxhall. BAIC becomes the fourth bidder, joining Fiat, Canada's Magna and Belgium's RHJ.


Porsche and Maserati are the latest foreign carmakers to pull out of this year's Tokyo auto show in October.
Hyundai, Ferrari and Lotus are the only non-Japanese brands currently signed up for the event. The show organizers said last week that 22 overseas automakers have now pulled out of the biannual show, which will now be four days shorter than the last event in 2007. Currently all domestic Japanese makers will exhibit.


Jaguar UK has launched a high performance Police pursuit vehicle based on its award-winning XF Diesel S model. The first ever Police-spec XF is currently being evaluated by Police forces across the country.
Geoff Cousins, UK Managing Director for Jaguar Cars, said: "Police forces are looking for vehicles that represent value for money, have good environmental credentials and deliver the power and performance required of a pursuit vehicle."

New commercial vehicle registrations in Europe declined by 42.4pc in April, totalling 139,870 units.
Four months into the year, the decrease was 37.3pc. The downturn affected all countries and was sharper in the new EU Member States (-42.5pc) than in Western Europe (-36.5pc).


European travellers have named London taxis as the best in the world.
But they have complained about paying over the odds for the service. Driver's of New York's yellow cabs were said to have the poorest knowledge of their area and were the worst drivers. Parisian cabbies are the rudest and Bangkok the most dangerous drivers, while Athens has the dirtiest taxis.
