General Motors Corp. and Magna International Inc. have given
themselves four more weeks to agree on the details of a deal to sell controlling
interest in GM's Opel/Vauxhall business to Magna and Russia's Sberbank.
If the two sides cannot
finalize a sales agreement by then, GM presumably would reopen bidding. Fiat,
Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. and Ripplewood Holdings all have indicated
they would be interested in Opel should the Magna bid fail. Fiat has also said
it would be interested if circumstances were right.
Labour is still failing to live up to
its promise to make Britain's roads ‘the safest in the world', according to a
report by the Institute of Advanced Motorists.
It
found the risk to drivers in their teens and 20s of killing or being killed on
the roads had not changed since the early 1980s - despite a significant fall in
other age groups.
An
updated police driver training manual includes advice on eco-driving and new
modules for pursuit training.
Issued by the Association of Chief Police
Officers (ACPO) and the Association of Chief Police Officers Scotland (ACPOS),
the manual provides police force driving schools with a framework allowing them
to develop a course based on the National Police Driving Standards.
