Hirvonen with his new toy from Historic Rallysport

World Rally Championship driver
Mikko Hirvonen has given the thumbs up to his latest car, built in West Wales.
He commissioned a Ford Escort Mk2 from Carmarthen based Historic Rallysport and gave it a shakedown this week at the Pembrey circuit before having it shipped to his Finnish home. It was built for him by Mark Solloway from Cwmffrwd near Carmarthen.

The World Rally Championship leader has not decided when he will drive the car on a stage for the first time, but said  the preparation by Historic Rallysport surpassed all his expectations.
Hirvonen seems to enjoy the experience
Quoted by Autosport magazine, he said, "The car was just fantastic. I can't even describe how much I enjoyed driving it and listening to the engine.

"In my career I drove a couple of events in a Mk2 Escort, but they only had two-litre pinto engines, nothing like the BDA engine.

"I don't think there is any sound quite like the BDA. When I get home I think I'm going to be going to the garage and starting the engine just to listen to it."
