BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team driver Mikko
Hirvonen celebrated his 29th birthday in style yesterday as he and
co-driver Jarmo Lehtinen led the opening leg of Rally Finland from
start to finish.
The Finns (above) won four of the eight gravel speed tests in their Ford
Focus RS World Rally Car to build a 3.3sec lead in this ninth round of
the FIA World Rally Championship. WRC Sebastien Loeb and team-mate Dani
Sordo are second and third in their Citroen C4s.
Carmarthen’s Bronwydd navigator Gareth Roberts who is
co-driving for Irishman Craig Breen are leading the WRC Finland Fiesta
category and N3 while holding 40th place last night in their KelTech
Engineering Fiesta (above).
