Auris with hybrid drive begins a new generation

The new Auris HSD Full Hybrid Concept, presented publicly for the first time at the Frankfurt motor show, marks a significant milestone in Toyota’s plan to equip its mainstream European models with full hybrid technology.

Toyota is committed to making the environmental benefits of its Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) accessible to a wider customer base and it is on track to offer a hybrid version of every model in its range by the early 2020s.
A five door hatchback is the best selling type of car in Europe and consequently the installation of HSD in Auris is the logical first step in deploying full hybrid technology across Toyota’s entire European model line-up.
By introducing the Auris HSD Full Hybrid Concept, Toyota also aims to shift customer perceptions of hybrid technology. The obvious advantages are exceptional fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions, but customers will also experience smooth and sophisticated driving unlike any other family hatchback, thanks to the everyday usability, comfort and quietness of the Toyota full hybrid powertrain.
The Auris HSD Full Hybrid will be built by Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK (TMUK) at the Burnaston factory, near Derby, with sales scheduled to start during the second half of 2010.

Cleanest ever Audi sets benchmark for rest

Audi is pioneering the introduction of the world’s cleanest diesel technology to the UK in Q7 SUV models that help to rid the air of Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions, regarded by many as being dramatically more harmful to humans than Carbon Dioxide (CO2).
Capable of removing up to 90 per cent of NOx particles from exhaust gases, this ultra-low emission technology will be a highlight at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show (September 17 to 27), where it will be showcased in the compact executive A4 Saloon.
The Q7 3.0 TDI Clean Diesel (from £40,060 OTR) is the first passenger car to be available in the UK with this advanced system, which has been designed to maximise engine efficiency and to optimise the after-treatment of exhaust gas.

Prices announced for RCZ

The Frankfurt Motor Show will see the world premiere of Peugeot’s exciting new RCZ 2+2 Coupé.

It will go on sale in the UK in Spring 2010 and the entry RCZ 156 THP manual model will start at an on-the-road price of £19,900. Prices will rise to £21,000 for the 1.6 auto and £21,700 for the 2.0 163hp manual.
There will be two trim levels available with the entry trim level including: 18” alloy wheels, sports front seats, dual zone air-conditioning, folding rear seat, rear parking aid, deadlocks, selective access locking, alarm and immobiliser, four airbags, ESP, EBFD, EBA, ABS, double bubble rear screen, black roof panel, active rear spoiler, twin rear sports’ exhaust…
The second trim level for another £2,300 will add: leather interior, electric heated front seats, carpet mats, front parking aid, auto tilting (when reversing) door mirrors, automatic lights, follow-me-home lighting, automatic windscreen wipers, automatic exterior approach lighting, 19” alloy wheels and leather front sports seats for an additional.

Fiat's alternative 4WD

A rugged new version of the versatile Qubo range is gearing up for a UK introduction later this month, following its international public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week.

The Qubo Trekking not only looks tougher than the regular car, but drives tougher too, thanks to the addition of Traction+, a system that utilises an electronic differential lock to the front wheels to improve handling and control in mud, snow and other low-grip conditions.
Unlike most ordinary four-wheel drive systems, Traction+ does not have an impact on fuel economy or maintenance costs, and is designed to attract a much wider audience of motorists looking for an affordable off-road vehicle. The system works by braking the driven wheel with the lowest grip and transferring more torque to the other wheel, with the result that there is more grip to overcome slippery conditions. Prices start at £12,650.

Anniversary model of X5

BMW will offer a special edition of its popular X5 to mark the range’s 10-year production milestone.

The BMW xDrive35d 10-Year Edition comes as standard in Sophisto Grey metallic paint with unique 20-inch Y-spoke light alloy wheels, Matt Aluminium exterior trim, Matt Aluminium roof rails, Panoramic glass sunroof and Comfort Access.
Inside, and Comfort seats, Anthracite headlining, Carrara Shades Nappa leather upholstery and BMW Individual Piano Black trim are just some of the product highlights. ‘10-Year’ plaques are fitted to the front doors, front door sill plates and on the dashboard to underscore the merit of the vehicle.
Only 2,000 of the 286hp BMW X5 xDrive35d 10-Year Edition models will be sold worldwide with approximately 10 per cent of production destined for the UK. This latest X5 is on sale now priced from £53,075.
