Britain ’s leading off road drivers will pay their
second visit of the year to the Glanusk Estate near Crickhowell this
weekend as it plays host to round 5 of the Britpart MSA British Cross
Country Championship.
The Championship sees drivers competing against the
clock as they tackle a demanding an off road course that most drivers
would consider impossible to drive on at any speed.
When the
competitors paid their first ever visit to the venue in May, it was met
with universal praise. The event organisers are promising a changed,
even more exciting route this weekend and a second successful
competition will see Glanusk secure its place as one of the leading off
road venues in the country. Whilst the management team for the estate have said that
the venue will only host a handful of events of this kind each year,
the growing success means competitors from throughout the UK and the
rest of Europe will be anxious to compete on those limited events. Victory
on the May event went to the Huddersfield pairing of Richard Kershaw (above)
and Graham Broadbent. With just one round of the championship left
following this weekend, the reigning champions still have plenty of
work to do, however, if they are to hold on to their title.
Rally fans can get even closer to the action at this
year’s Rally of Great Britain 22-25 October with two new spectator
experiences. These include a new site for shakedown at Margam
Country Park and, for the first time since the event has taken place in
Wales , spectators can access the remote service in mid-Wales at Builth
Wells. Tickets can be booked by calling the ticket hotline on 0844
847 2251 or in person from Ticketline, 47 Westgate Street, Cardiff,
CF10 1TL, Monday 9am – 6pm, Saturday 9am -5.30pm and Sunday 10am –
4:00pm.
Among their closest rivals are likely to be Tim Dilworth
and Anthony Brinkman from Flintshire who won round 3, held in Radnor
Forest while the Preston pairing of Dan Lofthouse and Danny Koonja will
be looking to build on their victory in the last round at Sweet Lamb
Rally Complex near Llangurig. The first run of the day on
Saturday will beat 10:00am , 8 runs over the 6 mile course are
scheduled during the course of the day. On Sunday the event will
start a little earlier at 9:00am with 6 runs scheduled before the close
of event and prize giving at about 3:00pm .
A star-studded cast of Formula 1 drivers – including
2008 World Champion Lewis Hamilton – will headline the first-ever
Powered by Mercedes-Benz Live event at Mercedes-Benz World, Surrey on 8
November.
Powered by Mercedes-Benz Live will offer fans the chance
to meet Lewis Hamilton, his team-mate Heikki Kovalainen, double World
Champion Mika Häkkinen, David Coulthard and Formula 1 team boss Ross
Brawn. Formula 1 drivers Pedro de la Rosa and Anthony Davidson, as well
as a host of Mercedes-Benz Touring car and Formula 3 drivers, will also
be in attendance.
