A new “fun” competition for rally drivers has been unveiled, with the first event to take place at Pembrey Circuit on Sunday 6 December.

Organiser and regular rally competitor Howard Cartwright explained “The people who go drifting seem to think that they invented sideways motoring, whereas we know that nobody does it better or enjoys it more than rally drivers.

"So this is a chance for us to have some festive fun and show off our sideways skills. We are particularly pleased that the Pembrey management have allowed us access to a section of the race track.”

Competitors in the inaugural RallyDrift will be judged on factors such as how sideways they can get without spinning, their car control and entertainment value. There will also be additional awards for things such as the rwd driver who lifts a front wheel the highest and the driver who best enters into the spirit of the event.

To even things out there will be separate classes for front, rear and four wheel drive.
The organisers don’t anticipate RallyDrift becoming a major sport “but”, says Howard, “if it’s popular enough we will run a handful of events each year when there is a lull in the rallying calendar.

"We will keep entry fees as low as we can and it will be a chance for us to get a bit more fun from the tyres, if not the drivers, whose best rallying days are past them."
