Toyota Motor Corp. announced it would recall another three models in the United States -- covering 155,000 vehicles, says the Detroit News. The recalls announced shortly before 4 a.m. yesterday include 133,459 MY2010 Prius vehicles and 15,090 Lexus MY2010 HS 250h vehicles sold in America "to update software in the vehicle's anti-lock brake system." Independent research commissioned by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has revealed encouraging prospects for the UK automotive supply chain with the majority of volume car manufacturers with UK plants showing a strong interest in sourcing more locally-built components. “There is genuine interest and commitment from global vehicle manufacturers in building a stronger UK-based supply chain,” said SMMT chief executive, Paul Everitt. The world’s auto industry will make more than 61 million vehicles this year, compared to 57 million in 2009, predicts CSM Worldwide Inc and reported by AutoBeat Europe. The Detroit-area forecasting service says output will jump 27pc to 10.8 million in North America and 15pc to 8.6 million in Japan this year. It expects demand to jump nearly 25pc to 836,000 units in Russia but improve only 0.5pc to 3.9 million in the rest of eastern Europe. CSM says the end to scrappage schemes in western Europe will cause production in the region to decline almost 3pc to 11.5 million. |
