The recent cold weather is likely to have cost local authorities in Wales hundreds of thousands of pounds in extra gritting costs. Several councils said their gritting budgets were severely overspent, with total costs reaching up to £4m. The Welsh Local Government Association said most areas of Wales would have to dip into their emergency reserves to pay for the costs of extra gritting. The assembly government said it had the supplies to help councils if required.
The European Investment Bank has approved a loan to Saab Automobile for €400 million. Vauxhall’s Swappage offer allows buyers to use any seven-year-old UK-registered car with insurance, road tax and MOT – no matter what its value or condition – as currency to reduce the cost of any of the six models listed by at least £3000.
Perodua has had a successful start to 2010 as registrations for January are up by an impressive 67.6pc in comparison to the same month last year, in a market which is up 29.8pc on last year. 2009 proved to be a good year for Perodua too, despite the market being extremely tough for most of the year. Total registrations for Perodua in 2009 were up 4.2% in a market which was down 6.4%.
Consumer confidence in Toyota remains extremely high among inspite of the current spate of recalls according to a poll byMotorpoint. Over 70pc of people surveyed by the car supermarket giant said their belief in Toyota remained strong even though hundreds of thousands of cars are being recalled across Europe owing to fears of a sticking accelerator pedal and floor mat.
Hertz has entered a commitment with Nissan to bring zero-emission mobility to car rental in the US and Europe by early 2011. Under the terms of their Memorandum of Understanding, Hertz will develop a program for the roll-out of Nissan LEAF at select rental sites in those two major markets.
