Saab has been saved. Spyker Cars N.V. has finalised the deal with General Motors Company to purchase Saab Automobile AB and the European Investment Bank has promised Spyker €400M to develop new models. Dieter Zetsche, President of ACEA and Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler, last night made the case for a new spirit of cooperation among politics, economy and society to make real progress towards a sustainable Europe. "The imperative for a sustainable Europe is an innovative, competitive industrial base and it is positive to see this recognised so prominently in the European Commission's Vision 2020. Competitiveness is the cornerstone of sustainability", said Zetsche in his welcoming speech at the ACEA annual reception last night in Brussels. A survey carried out by road safety organisation GEM Motoring Assist reveals that half of UK drivers have had a crash or a near miss whilst swerving to avoid a pothole. Committed to the safety of all road users, GEM developed the survey due to the huge rise in the number of potholes on UKroads since the bad weather and snow earlier this month. The Proton Concept car to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next week showcases an advanced series hybrid drivetrain, designed and developed by Lotus Engineering.
