 | Snow was to be the main subject last Saturday night on the Lampeter & District Motor Club run Rali Bro Caron. With
a capacity entry of 90 competing cars and a reserve list the event got
underway from the Black Lion Hotel Lampeter at midnight, the organising
team decided to scrap SS1 through Parc – y - Rhos on safety grounds
with the roads coated with a layer of snow and frozen ice, competitors
were then sent directly to SS2 on a loop around Cellan and the top of
Ffarmers. | | With the event going on fine roughly an hour and a half
into the event the heavens opened and with heavy falling snow reducing
visibility drastically the organisers immediately decided to call an
early finish on safety grounds to the rally at the petrol halt in
Aberaeron where the results would stand to that given point. Fifty six crews were classified at the finish and many praised the organising team for putting on a demanding event
navigational wise, with all marshals’ parked spot-on in their relevant
locations. | Overall winning crew by just 11 seconds were Dylan
Davies / Dale Furniss in an Escort Mk2 making it two Bro Caron wins on
the trot. Class 1 masters would be won by Hywel Davies / Richard
Morris in another Escort with Daniel Jones / Graham Dance just 6
seconds adrift in yet another Escort Mk2. Former Bro Caron winning crew
Gary Davies (Dylan Davies father ) would this year take 3rd in the
masters class a mere 5 seconds down on Daniel Jones. Class 2
Experts was won by Richard James / Nigel Davies in a Rover MGZR with
the Escort of Arwyn Thomas / Richard Hughes finishing as runners up. Class
3 Semi Experts wining crew were Gareth Harries / Craig Davies in a Ford
Sierra with Justin Jones / Andrew Gaunt finishing second in the class
in Jones newly built Escort Mk2. Class 4 Novices was again a local
winning crew with Stefan Davies / Mark Rodway in a Escort Mk2 finishing
ahead of Gareth Hughes / Andrew Ling in a Peugeot 205, 3rd went to
Daniel James / Jason Thomas Fiat Punto. Best mixed crew went to Gareth Lloyd / Llinos Jones Davies while the Under 1400 cc award went to Richard Williams / Mark Hughes. © Images Gary Jones
