Twelve claims for compensation have been made following the closure of the Severn crossings due to falling ice last year, it has emerged. The Highways Agency released the figure in response to a Freedom of Information request by Plaid Cymru AM Chris Franks. Hi-tech equipment is being introduced to reduce road closure times after major incidents. A £320,000 investment will allow police in each of the four forces to collect evidence at collisions using a satellite navigation system to speed up precise data gathering. Jaguar Land Rover turned in a profit of £55m in the last three months of 2009 after a loss of £60m in the previous quarter. The company's owner, India's Tata Motors, said the bounce back was thanks to stronger market conditions, scrappage incentives and the new models introduced last year. The European Commission has launched a probe into possible price fixing in several countries by manufacturers of wiring harnesses. Competition investigators launched a simultaneous swoop but it could be several months before the results of their probe are announced. |
