News linesMitsubishi Motors Corp. will increase production of its i-MiEV electric car to about 30,000 units a year in fiscal 2012, about triple its expected fiscal 2010 output. The decision, announced Monday, is a reflection of the greater-than-expected number of orders for the car, especially from private companies and government offices. MMC also said it was sure it would be able to sufficiently increase lithium ion battery production. Honda Motor Co said Wednesday orders for its CR-Z compact hybrid exceeded 10,000 units in a month after the sports car hit the market 26 February, compared with the automaker’s monthly sales target of 1,000. About 90pc of orders for the car, touted to be the world’s first hybrid sports car, were placed for the high-end model. Toyota has apparently authorised a second fix of throttle pedals on recalled models if owners complain about the modification already carried out. The Japanese automaker said in a memo seen by The Associated Press that if a customer is unhappy with the feel of the accelerator after the car is repaired, dealers can provide a replacement pedal at no charge. Dealers have been inserting a piece of metal into the gas pedal mechanism to eliminate friction that was causing the pedal problem vehicles involved in a January recall. |
