Mitsubishi and PSA Peugeot Citroen will jointly
develop a new compact sport utility vehicle for the European market,
based on the Mitsubishi ASX.
They plan to launch the new SUV for both the Peugeot and Citroen brands
in early 2012. Mitsubishi is projected to supply 50,000 units annually
for the two brands. The new SUV will be powered by Peugeot's 1.6-liter HDi
diesel engine while sharing other components with the Mitsubishi ASX. It
will have different designs for the Peugeot and Citroen brands. | |
The deal will allow the French automaker to expand the product ranges
for the two brands and Mitsubishi to increase the production efficiency
for the platform, they said. The companies are also building an electric
car based on the iMEV by Mitsubishi. |
