| New research suggests there just might be more to a
name than you may think as the UK’s most accident-prone surnames have
been revealed. Online car insurance specialist elephant.co.uk has found it’s motorists named Clark who took the top spot and were found to be the most likely to be involved in a car accident. The company looked at its database of over 350,000 accident claims over the last three years to find out which surnames featured the most. Topping the list was Clark, closely followed by Allen and Lewis. Instead of looking at the surnames with the highest number of accidents, elephant.co.uk looked at the surnames with the highest frequency of accidents. Clarks are 10pc more likely than the average driver to have a claim for an accident. Allens are 8pc more likely, and those called Lewis 6pc more likely. | ![]() |
The least accident-prone surnames have also been revealed. At the other end of the scale Roberts, followed by Hall and Davies take the safest driver accolades. The research found that Roberts are 15pc less likely than the average driver to have an accident, and those named Hall and Davies are 14pc less likely. elephant.co.uk MD, Brian Martin (above) said, “Although a bit of fun, there are obvious differences in the accident rates of some surnames compared with others. “However, we all know not every Clark is going to be a risky driver, and not every Roberts is going to be a particularly safe driver and it’s definitely not something we rate our policies on.” | |
