News linesStefan Jacoby was named President and Chief Executive of Volvo Cars after Geely Holding Group completed the acquisition of 100 per cent of Volvo Car Corporation from Ford Motor Company with approval of the Chinese governement yesterday. Following completion of the transaction, Mr Stefan Jacoby will join the board of Volvo Cars, chaired by Li Shufu, Chairman of Geely Holding Group. The board will comprise several new directors including Hans-Olov Olsson, a former President and Chief Executive of Volvo Cars and a former Chief Marketing Officer of Ford, who will become Vice-Chairman of the board. Saab GB has reached another milestone with the relocation of the company to new head offices. Saab GB will be based at Martell House in the Cranfield Technology Park adjoining Cranfield University in Milton Keynes. The location fits perfectly with Saab’s aerospace heritage as Cranfield University is a leading postgraduate centre for technology, engineering and aerospace and the relocation follows the completion of the sale of Saab GB to Spyker Cars which took place in May. In just seven week's time Goodwood will be marking the important contribution that two British legends have made to the sport of motor racing over the decades when it pays tribute to multiple World Champion John Surtees and the celebrated British Racing Motors marque at the 2010 Goodwood Revival 17-19 September. The Goodwood Motor Circuit has played a significant role in the careers of both racing driver John Surtees and BRM (for which Surtees drove), so it is entirely fitting that their achievements are celebrated with special track parades at the 2010 Revival to mark two important anniversaries. Three quarters of drivers think driving standards are declining, but only one third think their driving is getting worse. What Car? has revealed that 45pc of drivers in the UK would be likely to fail the practical part of the current driving test if they retook it today. In a recent poll on whatcar.com, 75pc of drivers said they thought driving standards are getting worse. Hertz, the world’s largest general use car rental brand, today announced it has extended its 21 year preferred partnership with Air France - Europe’s largest airline - for a further three years. Air France was Hertz’s first European airline partner and together they have developed many customer innovations and technological advancements. Air France passengers can continue to access all the car rental convenience offered by Hertz at the airline's international destinations and at any of Hertz’ 8,200 locations in more than 146 countries worldwide. Renault SA earned a net €823 million in the first half of 2010 on sales of nearly €20 billion. The company, which does not report quarterly profits, lost €2.7 billion on sales of €16 billion from January through June last year. Renault says its net debt has declined 21% to €4.7 billion since the end of 2009. General Motors Co. says it will increase output of its upcoming Chevrolet Volt sedan in 2012 to 45,000 units from 30,000 because of strong consumer interest in the plug-in hybrid. GM will introduce the car in select U.S. markets at the end of this year. The company says it will begin production of the European version, the Opel Ampera, in 2011. |
