FordTeamJill support Welsh charity fund raiser
publication date: Aug 16, 2010
Six Ford runners are training and fundraising for the
Cardiff half marathon in support of the Wheels Within Wales editor who is
raising money in memory of his wife who died of cancer last year.
'Ford Team Jill' was formed at the October 2009 funeral of Jill
Roberts, late wife of Western Group and Guild motoring writer Robin,
when Ford's UK press office team members decided to sign up for the 2010
Cardiff half and raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
'Ford Team Jill' was founded by Bob Wright, wife Bev and
Oliver Rowe who have since been joined by the press office's Dan Jones,
Oliver's brother James and Bob's friend Rory Stone. Marie Curie Cancer
Cure, whose nurses looked after Jill at Holme Towers, Penarth, has
already benefitted from donations in her honour and the runners will add
to this amount.
'Ford Team Jill' is now seeking sponsorship for Marie Cure ahead of the race on 17 October. | | | | Launching its www.justgiving.com/fordteamjill
webpage, team captain Bob Wright said, "We want to match the £4,500 | | FordTeamJill comprises Rory, Bob and Bev (above) and James, Oliver and Dan (below) | raised so far in memory of a lovely natured, ever-cheerful lady. We
appeal to Ford colleagues in Essex, Wales and elsewhere, our industry
colleagues and the journalists we work with – many of whom fondly
remember Jill – to dig deep in support."
Robin Roberts, who lives near Ford's Bridgend engine plant, said, "Jill
would have been heartened and touched, as the family has been since her
death, by the support given by her professional and personal friends.
They are raising much needed funds for charities for which she had
particularly strong affinities".
Jill worked in PR in Cardiff and Newport for over 20 years. Testimony to
her professional skills and personal commitment was widespread,
including support from celebrity comedian Steve Coogan and the Princess
of Wales for a 1997 charity breast cancer awareness campaign. | | |
