Vauxhall and Opel parent considers entering WRC

GM Europe is considering returning to international rally with the World Rally Championship for the first time in more than 20 years to bolster the image of European brands Opel and Vauxhall.

The company believes taking part in WRC would bolster its image and develop technology.

This year Jason Plato who won the BTCC championship in a Chevy Cruze and also GM secured its first World Touring Car Championship last month with the Cruze.

It is not known if the return will be confirmed or when it may happen but it's unlikely before 2012. Next year's WRC will see the appearance of Mini to contest the series beginning with a development programme and full assault in 2012.
