One of the UK's leading race teams has chosen St David's Day to open its new Welsh headquarters.

Atech Reid, headed by Anthony Reid, runs cars in a number of championships including the prestigious Superleague Formula in which all the cars run in the colours of leading football clubs from around the world.

The cars have performance levels approaching Formula One, with speeds topping 200mph and the series is regarded as a top proving ground for the world's best up and coming drivers. Among the cars run by Atech Reid are those supported by Liverpool FC and AC Milan.

Anthony, originally from Cardiff, has relocated his team from Silverstone in Northamptonshire to Treforest Industrial Estate where their state of the art design and engineering facilities already employ 28 people.

The team is also working with local engineering, automotive and software suppliers as well as forging links with Welsh educational institutions such as Swansea Metropolitan University, renowned for its Motorsport Engineering courses

On display at the formal opening will be a number of the team's single seater race cars, while Anthony will be available for interview along with members of his design team, engineers and his international team of race drivers.

The team will also be demonstrating their skill at high speed pit stops.
