Salesman squares up to new bout of charity money-raising
publication date: Apr 2, 2011
From
marathons to garlic eating, staff at Renault Cardiff are always willing to go
the extra mile for local good causes including it would seem stepping into a
boxing ring!
This summer,
new car sales executive Michael Creed will be swapping his suit and tie for
gloves and boots as he takes part in the White Collar Boxing Evening in aid of
Marie Curie.
Despite
having never boxed before, the 27-year-old from Cardiff will be joining
nineteen other fighters at the Cardiff
Coal Exchange on 3 June. | | In the
lead up to the event, Michael and the other contenders will be given 10 weeks
of coaching and training by Welsh boxing professionals before getting ready to
rumble for his one and only match of the night.
Alongside
the event will run a black tie dinner for spectators during which a variety of
fundraising activities will be taking place including a charity auction.
Michael,
who has worked at the Penarth Road dealership for more than a year, said: "It
all started when a colleague of mine went to a similar event and suggested I
give it a try. After thinking about it for a few weeks I decided to do just
that, even though my mum tried to talk me out of it.
"Training
starts soon and all the guys taking part will train together before the big
night. We'll also get proper head guards to make sure we're protected.
"I hope
to raise around £500 in total and have already got the full support of everyone
at the dealership."
Darren
Bowen, Sales Manager at the dealership, added: "Over the past 12 months our
staff have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help raise money for local
good causes but I think Michael's challenge is perhaps the most impressive so
far. He's really thrown himself in at the deep end and for that everyone at
Renault Cardiff is very proud of him and will either be supporting him on the
night or sponsoring him beforehand."
He added: "We're hoping this will
help raise as much money as possible for Marie Curie and add to the thousands
Renault Cardiff has raised for local charities over the years such as Ty
Hafan."
