Loeb sweeps to Sardinia victory and Mini snatch strong sixth place
publication date: May 9, 2011
Sebastien
Loeb has strengthened his lead in the battle for the 2011 WRC drivers'
title with his second victory of the year on Rally Italia Sardegna.
| | Loeb took the lead in his Citroen on Friday and managed to
extend the margin on the repeat loop in the afternoon, which saw close rival,
Ford's Mikko Hirvonen, collect a puncture.
The Fiesta driver continued his attack but Citroen annoyingly
stayed just out of reach. The result sees him extend his lead at the top of the
Drivers' Championship, increasing it from 2 points to 7.
In a fantastic display, Petter Solberg chased them
home to his first podium place of the season in his Citroen DS3 and the debut
of the new works Mini team saw Dani Sordo finished in sixth place (left). | | |
