Ford's first global performance car will take centre stage next year with a starring role in a new film The Sweeney. Ford's strong link with the 1970s Sweeney TV series saw Regan, Carter and their Flying Squad colleagues using a string of Ford Granadas, Consuls and Cortinas to make the streets of London a safer placeand their team will use a fleet of the latest Ford models to catch the new crims. Sébastien Ogier has been signed as the first official Volkswagen driver for the FIA World Rally Championship. The 27-year-old Frenchman and his co-driver Julien Ingrassia (31) are joining the Volkswagen Motorsport squad effective immediately. Ogier, who finished the 2011 WRC in third place, will be instrumental in helping to shape the development of the Polo R WRC for Volkswagen's 2013 entry in the World Rally Championship. Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team will field two Fiesta RS World Rally Cars for Jari-Matti Latvala / Miikka Anttila and Ott Tänak / Kuldar Sikk in a test outing in Rallye du Var in southern France this weekend. Both cars will test unspecified new components as part of the team's scheduled development plan for the Fiesta RS WRC. The all-asphalt French Rally Championship event is based around the picturesque coastal town of Saint-Maxime, close to Saint Tropez, on the Côte d'Azur. Range_e, Jaguar Land Rover's technology concept for a plug-in hybrid diesel-electric powertrain, has been honoured with the 2011 Award for Automotive Innovation by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. The system first revealed at the Geneva motor show in March has been hailed by the auto industry as the most significant achievement of the year in UK research and development for the global market. Mazda UK has teamed up with the UK's largest car recycling network, Cartakeback, to offer £500 off a new Mazda when customers scrap their old car. Peugeot has delivered an iOn to the idyllic islands of Orkney, making it the most northerly all electric car in Britain. In a drive to cut fuel bills and reduce emissions, Orkney Island Council has become the latest Scottish authority to boost its fleet with one. |
