Wales should opt out of UK proposals to raise the
motorway speed limit from 70mph to 80mph, says a campaign group.
Sustainable
Transport Cymru (STC) said it feared increased speeds would lead to more
accidents, higher casualty rates and more carbon emissions but the Welsh
government said it would consider safety implications in particular in
examining the plans.
High demand for the
Astra Sports Tourer helped Vauxhall Ellesmere Port to record line rates of 47
units per hour since July 2011. Thus, the plant assembled a total of 139,528
vehicles in two shifts in 2011 of which 129,648 fell into the Sports Tourer's
arena during its first full year of production. Over 91% of Sports
Tourers were bound for export to mainland Europe and beyond with a particularly
strong uptake in Germany where 50,153 Sports Tourers where sold in 2011 -
Germany having historically a very strong demand for estates.
Jaguar Land Rover
has received 10,632 applications for its graduate recruitment places this year
as it continues its recruitment drive to support a multi billion pound
investment plan for new product creation.
Applications are 61
per cent higher than in 2011 and are five times higher than they were just
three years ago. For 2012, graduates will be hired for a variety of roles
across the business - from Product Development Engineering, Manufacturing,
Finance, Human Resources, Marketing & Sales, IT and Purchasing.
With
January blues now in full swing, over a million Brits will book their next
break in the sun this month and it looks like most will be jetting off to Spain
and Portugal come Springtime.
Based
on last year's booking trends, Ibiza, Palma de Majorca and Faro were the top destinations
for a sunny break, but car hire bookings for locations further afield look to
be on the increase, suggesting Brits are becoming a bit more adventurous.
A Turkish private
equity firm, Brightwell Holdings, has announced its interest in placing a bid
on now bankrupt Swedish automaker, Saab.
The firm, based in
Istanbul, invests in energy, transport and technology and wishes to buy all of
Saab and wishes to keep production in Sweden.
