Hydrogen vehicles roll a little closer with launch of major study and trials

A ground breaking project to ensure the UK is well
positioned for the commercial roll-out of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles
has been launched by Business Minister Mark Prisk.
The new programme -
UKH2Mobility - will evaluate the potential for hydrogen as a fuel for Ultra Low
Carbon Vehicles in the UK before developing an action plan for an anticipated
roll-out to consumers in 2014/15. The group brings
together the
|  | Government and industrial participants from the utility, gas,
infrastructure and global car manufacturing sectors. All of the
participants have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to agree to share their
knowledge and expertise. The venture is backed by Vauxhall, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai,
JLR and Daimler.
Dr
Ben Graziano, Technology Commercialisation Manager at the Carbon Trust who
heads up the Carbon Trust's Polymer Fuel Cells Challenge, said, "By
investing in pioneering fuel cell technologies and now committing alongside
some of the leading industry players to the evaluation and potential roll-out
of hydrogen to consumers by 2014/15, the UK joins Germany, Japan and the US at
the forefront of this major global growth sector."

fuel cell vehicle "HydroGen4" and Welsh-born Vauxhall director for
Government affairs and public policy, Bill Parfitt (left) said, "Following our
company's unrelenting focus on
hydrogen fuel cell technology development, the launch and successful
roll-out
of these vehicles will now depend on the availability of hydrogen to the
