This weekend sees the first key event of the 2012 motorsport season with the Autosport International show taking place at Birmingham's NEC.

Following two trade days, the show is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday.
Among the machinery on display will be a full scale model of Bloodhound SSC. Much of the computer modelling for the car has been undertaken at Swansea University and the team behind it are hoping to set a new record for a wheeled vehicle in excess of 1000mph when it runs in 2013.
A display of rally cars from the last 50 years has the theme of British Rally Heroes and will include the Mini Cooper driven to victory on the 1963 Monte Carlo Rally by Paddy Hopkirk while the Formula One grid will include cars from at least seven current Grand Prix teams including Red Bull Racing's championship winning RB7.
As well as the static displays, the now traditional Live Action Arena will include Drifting, F1 Stock-cars, Rallycross, Autograss and Pick Up Truck racing. Meanwhile, visitors to the show can follow in the footsteps of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button by trying their hand at karting on the purpose built indoor track.
Certain to be one of the most popular features of the show, however, is a tribute to Grand Prix great Ayrton Senna, which will include the kart that he campaigned in the 1980 World Karting Championship, the Formula Ford 2000 car that he once drove to victory at Castle Comber circuit and four of the Formula One cars that he drove en route to his 41 Grand Prix wins.
The show is open from 09:00 to 18:00 daily and admission is from £30 for adults and £19.50 for children up to 15 with under 5s admitted free.
Motorsport students from Swansea Metropolitan University, one of the UK's leading educators for the motorsport industry, have been invited to act as ambassadors for the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) at this year's Autosport International event.

Business leaders
have welcomed plans to close a mile of Swansea's seafront to host a three day off-road motor sport event which could attract upwards of 80,000 spectators.
Thousands of tonnes of sand will be moved to create man-made dunes for motorcross and quad bike courses and Swansea council's cabinet has agreed a one year trial for the event.
